A Manta Air seaplane crash landed this morning at Velana International Airport


A Manta Air seaplane crash-landed at Velana International Airport this morning. There was a total of 9 people on board and no casualties were reported.

VIA immediately closed seaplane runway’s and all inbound seaplane aircraft were diverted.



MNDF Male’ area coast guard squadron was at the scene right away. Aircraft recovery is presently taking place.


According to Flightradar24 reports, the Manta Air seaplane Twin Otter registration 8Q-RAE was en route to male’ cruising at 5,500ft. The aircraft approached to water runway north right and touched down around 07:30 ( 02:30Z) at Velana International Airport.

METAR: Wind 090° 9kt. Visibility 9000m. Clouds few 1800ft. Temperature 28°C, dew point 24°C. QNH 1012hPa. NOSIG

TAF: From Sunday 5:00 till Monday 11:00:

Wind 080° 11kt. Visibility 9000m. Clouds few 1900ft. Temporarily from Sunday 15:00 till 21:00: Clouds few 1800ft cumulonimbus.
