A Maldivian man travelling on a diplomatic passport was taken into custody after unruly behaviour onboard a Batik Air flight arriving in Male’ with multiple reports indicating that he was intoxicated and shouting at cabin crew and passengers seated near him during the flight.

According to information shared with local media, the passenger’s behaviour escalated to the point where he was yelling inside the cabin and causing repeated disturbances throughout the journey. The situation reportedly prompted the airline to request law enforcement officers to be present at the gate when the aircraft arrived at Velana International Airport.
Police officers boarded the aircraft upon arrival and escorted the man off the flight. Witnesses said he continued shouting at the officers who met him at the aircraft door and remained verbally aggressive as he was taken through the terminal, including the immigration area and towards baggage claim.
Other details surrounding the incident, including the extent of the disturbance and whether any passengers or crew members were harmed, have not been officially clarified.
The incident comes amid a global rise in disruptive passenger behaviour, which airlines say places additional strain on cabin crews and can interfere with inflight safety procedures.
