Maldivian Announces First-Ever Direct Flights to Australia

Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, is preparing to launch its first-ever flights to Australia, introducing direct services between Melbourne and Male’ in partnership with Luxury Escapes.

The new route marks a historic milestone for the carrier, expanding its international network into Oceania and offering Australian travelers seamless access to the Maldives’ world-renowned resorts.
The service will be operated by Maldivian’s Airbus A330-200, which joined the fleet earlier this year. The aircraft has already been deployed on long-haul flights to China and India, as well as seasonal Hajj operations to Jeddah. The Melbourne–Male’ flights represent a significant step in diversifying the airline’s operations beyond its established markets, while also strengthening tourism links between Australia and the Maldives.
The partnership with Luxury Escapes is expected to enhance the appeal of the new route by combining direct air connectivity with curated holiday packages tailored for leisure and honeymoon travelers.
The airline has also confirmed plans to add a second Airbus A330 to its fleet, underscoring its commitment to expanding long-haul operations and opening new markets. With the introduction of direct flights to Melbourne, Maldivian positions itself as a growing player in connecting South Asia with Oceania, while offering Australians a faster and more convenient gateway to the Maldives.
