Velana International Airport Welcomes Singapore Airlines to Terminal 1

Singapore Airlines has officially transitioned its operations to Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport. The inaugural flight into the new terminal was greeted with a ceremonial water salute, underscoring the importance of the occasion for both the airline and the airport operator.

Arriving passengers were warmly welcomed by Dhiraagu Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ismail Rasheed, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Deputy Managing Director Mujthaba Latheef, members of the Executive Committee, and Singapore Airlines’ General Manager Haziq Sulaiman.

The move to Terminal 1 is expected to streamline passenger handling and provide improved facilities for travelers, aligning with Velana International Airport’s broader modernization program.

Singapore Airlines has long been a key player in connecting the Maldives to global destinations, particularly in Asia and beyond. The transition to Terminal 1 is seen as a step forward in supporting the growing demand for international travel to the Maldives, while reinforcing Velana International Airport’s role as the nation’s primary gateway.
