After weeks of disruption caused by regional instability in the Middle East, Qatar Airways has officially confirmed that it will resume flights between Doha and the Maldives. The announcement brings relief to travelers and tourism operators alike, who have felt the impact of suspended air corridors since tensions escalated in the region.

The airline’s flagship route, connecting Hamad International Airport (DOH) with Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé, is scheduled to restart on 8 April 2026. Initially, Qatar Airways will operate up to five weekly flights, reinstating a vital link for one of the world’s most tourism-dependent nations.
According to the carrier’s latest operational update, the current schedule remains valid until 15 April 2026, after which a revised timetable will be issued. Airline officials have cautioned that all schedules are subject to change depending on evolving operational conditions, but the resumption marks a clear step toward normalcy.
During the suspension period, transit passengers, particularly those traveling from Europe and the Americas faced limited options for reaching the Maldives via Doha. The reopening of the route is expected to ease capacity constraints and offer more predictable, efficient travel options as operations gradually stabilize.
The reinstated Doha–Male’ service is part of a broader network update by Qatar Airways, which includes increased frequencies to more than 90 destinations worldwide. For the Maldives, this is especially significant. The route serves as a critical gateway for inbound tourists from key feeder markets, including the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.
Tourism remains the backbone of the Maldivian economy, and reliable air access from major hubs like Doha directly influences arrival numbers. With Qatar Airways back in the skies over the Indian Ocean, local resorts, guesthouses, and travel agents are hoping for a swift rebound in bookings.
In a move designed to reassure travelers amid ongoing uncertainty, Qatar Airways has confirmed a flexible rebooking policy. Passengers holding tickets for travel up to 15 June 2026 may adjust their plans without penalty, offering added peace of mind.
The airline has also issued a clear advisory: travelers should only proceed to the airport if they hold a valid confirmed ticket. Some flights may still be subject to operational adjustments, and the carrier continues to monitor the regional situation closely. Additional flights may be organized where possible.
Further updates, including schedules beyond 15 April 2026, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. For now, the resumption of Qatar Airways’ Doha–Male’ service is being welcomed as a positive sign that regional air corridors are gradually reopening and that the Maldives remains well-connected to the rest of the world.
