President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has inspected the ongoing land reclamation works at Giraavaru Falhu, a major national development project aimed at expanding land availability and easing housing pressures in the Greater Male’ region.

The President was received at the site by Cabinet Ministers, senior officials from the President’s Office, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, along with members of MACL’s senior management and executive team.

During the visit, President Muizzu was briefed on the latest progress of the project and observed active reclamation operations, including dredging and sand‑filling work currently underway.

Reclamation at Giraavaru Falhu resumed on 30 January 2026. Under the project assigned to MACL, a total of 97.15 hectares is planned for reclamation, of which 35 hectares have been completed so far.

The works are being carried out using trailing suction hopper dredgers, including Oranje and Queen of Nederlanden, supporting steady progress toward the project’s targets.

The Giraavaru Falhu land reclamation project forms part of broader national efforts to expand land resources and support long‑term urban development across the Greater Male’ region.
