Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has commences operations to Shenzhen, China, marking a strategic expansion of its international network.

The inaugural flight departed Velana International Airport on July 7, operating via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi before arriving in Shenzhen early the following morning. The service is scheduled to run weekly until August 21, 2025, utilizing the airline’s Airbus A320 aircraft.
This new route builds on Maldivian’s growing presence in China, following the successful launch of direct flights to Chengdu, Beijing, and Shanghai earlier this year. With China remaining the Maldives’ top source market for tourism, the Shenzhen service is expected to further strengthen connectivity and support the nation’s economic and tourism goals.
Maldivian’s international expansion has been bolstered by the recent addition of wide-body aircraft to its fleet, enabling long-haul operations and positioning the airline to explore further destinations in Asia and Europe. A second wide-body aircraft is expected to join the fleet later this year, paving the way for additional routes.
