Two brand new ATR 72-600s for national airline Maldivian has just landed in Velana International Airport.
National Airlines Maldivian placed an order for two ATR 72-600 series and one ATR 42-600 series turboprop aircraft in January of 2022.
The three aircraft were originally to join Maldivian’s fleet last year on October however due to manufacturing delays delivery date was changed to January of 2023.
Two ATR 72-600s has now arrived to Maldives after ferry flight from Toulouse, France. The third aircraft, an ATR 42-600 will arrive later this month.
Additionally, Maldivian temporarily leased an ATR 72-500 operated by Swiftair in order to meet high operational demand during the new year season.
Maldivian is acquiring ATRs in order to replace the aging Dash8’s. The total acquisition cost of the three aircraft is reportedly USD 60 million (MVR 925 million) which is paid through a loan.
According to Maldivian Managing Director Mohamed Mihad; the airline will be adding 3 more ATR aircraft by the end of 2023 for a total of 6 ATRs.
