Travel ban on South Asian countries to be lifted as early as June - Ministry of Tourism

Maldives government issued a temporary travel ban to visitors from South Asian countries since 13th May following the rise in COVID19 cases. Several flights mainly that from India were cancelled due to the this.

The travel ban was imposed on travelers originating and transiting from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.


Ministry of Tourism highlighted today that a review shall take place prior to the end of May and the travel restrictions just may be revoked by early as June.


The ban has affected tourist arrival as 20% of all tourists to the Maldives in 2021 was from India alone. Indigo and Go Air was among the top airlines operating to the Maldives this year.
