Maldivian Signs Agreement for Two Twin Otter Classic 300‑G Aircraft from De Havilland Canada

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited announced today at the Farnborough Airshow that it has signed a letter of intent with Island Aviation Services Limited, operating as Maldivian, for the purchase of two DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft.

The agreement marks the first delivery of the Classic 300-G variant to the Maldives, which currently operates the world's largest fleet of Twin Otter aircraft.

According to De Havilland Canada, the Classic 300-G retains the short takeoff and landing (STOL) performance of previous models while incorporating upgraded avionics, revised passenger cabin specifications, and design changes aimed at reducing maintenance requirements. The manufacturer also states that weight reductions in the 300-G increase available payload capacity for passengers and cargo. The airline has not disclosed the scheduled delivery timeline for the two aircraft or the total value of the order.

Ryan DeBrusk, Vice President of Sales for De Havilland Canada, confirmed the airline will be the first Maldivian operator to introduce the 300-G variant. Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, said the aircraft will replace or supplement existing Twin Otter units currently in the airline's fleet.

The Twin Otter program has accumulated more than 1,000 total deliveries since production began. De Havilland Canada continues to produce the Classic 300-G at its facility in Calgary, Alberta. The company also manufactures the Dash 8-400 regional turboprop and supports a global fleet of over 5,000 aircraft across its product lines.
