Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Aishath Nahula meets with the CEO of Qatar Airways

Transport and Civil Aviation minister Aishath Nahula has met with the CEO of Qatar Airways Akbar Al Baker. The meeting was carried between the two to discuss ways to strengthen the aviation sector and build a stronger relationship with the two countries.


Akbar Al-Baker became the Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways in 1997 and he’s is also the former Civil Aviation Directorate of Qatar.


Aishath Nahula also met with the Qatar Minister of Transport and Communications, Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti to discuss the aspects of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of transportation and civil aviation services.


Qatar Airways has played a significant role in the recovery of the aviation sector in the Maldives. Qatar Airways was the first airline to commence commercial flights to the Maldives as borders were reopened.


Qatar Airways sits second place behind Emirates as the airline that has brought the most passengers to the Maldives in 2021 with 34,436 passengers carried in 446 aircraft movements. The airline has operated more than four daily flights during busier days to Velana International Airport.


The meetings were carried out during the official state visit to Qatar and Bangladesh by the President of the Maldives Ibrahim Solih accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula, President’s Chief of Staff Ali Zahir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary of Foreign Relations Sabra Ibrahim Noordeen and Chief Communications Strategist at the President’s Office Ibrahim Hood.
