Sri Lankan Airlines To Commence Flights From Mattala To Male’ In October

Sri Lankan Airlines, the flag carrier of Sri Lanka is set to launch flights from Mattala to Male’ on 14th October 2021.

Sri Lankan Airlines plans to initially operate one weekly flight to Velana International Airport and would gradually increase depending on passenger demand and this would be the first scheduled passenger flight services between the two destinations.


“SriLankan Airlines does not have any scheduled operations at MRIA at the moment, This once-a-week operation will gradually be increased to twice a week in the extensive plan of developing Mattala. This is one step of many,” said Shehan Sumanasekara, Director-Chief Operations, Airport & Aviation Services.

The airline would schedule a domestic flight between Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport as Sri Lankan Airline does not operate any flight to Mattala as of today.


Both Maldivian and Villa Air FlyMe have shown interest in operating flights between Mattala and Male’ in the past however the services are yet to begin.


Although, Maldivian has been operating charter flights to Mattala to carry out repatriation of seafarers since last December.
