Five US Air Force refueling aircraft were damaged in an Iranian missile strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal and cited by US officials. The incident marks one of the most direct hits on US military assets in the region in recent years, underscoring the escalating tension between Iran and US partners in the Middle East.

The tankers were parked on the ground at the time of the strike and sustained structural damage, though none were completely destroyed. No injuries to US personnel were reported, and operations at the base have continued under heightened security.

The KC‑135 is the backbone of US aerial refueling operations, supporting long‑range strike missions, surveillance flights, and allied air operations across the Middle East. Damage to multiple tankers at once poses a significant operational challenge, particularly at a time when refueling capacity is essential for maintaining persistent air presence in several active theaters.

Iran’s ability to target high‑value aircraft on the ground at a major regional hub signals both capability and intent, adding pressure to an already tense security environment.

The strike is expected to influence US military planning, including force protection measures, missile‑defense posture, and the distribution of critical assets across the region. While the Pentagon has not announced any retaliatory steps, assessments of the damage and operational impact are ongoing, and further adjustments to US deployments in the Gulf are likely as the situation develops.
