The German airliner Lufthansa announced on Monday that the airline has agreed to purchase ten brand new wide-body jets which include five Airbus A350-900’s and five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The five Boeing 787’s are “white tails” meaning that the aircraft is already built by the manufacturer for another company however it is on standstill mostly due to the contract falling through.
Lufthansa is picking up these 787’s and the aircraft are expected to fly in the winter season this year. In total, the airline has 45 orders for the Boeing 787 and the Boeing 777.
The five Airbus A350’s are newly ordered and the aircraft are expected to be delivered by 2027-2028. The airline has a total of 45 orders for the A350.
Lufthansa’s fleet modernization program following the pandemic would see many of the airline's older aircraft being phased out over the coming years.
