A Dornier Do 228 maritime patrol aircraft gifted to Maldives National Defense Force by India arrives in the Maldives. The aircraft landed at Hanimaadhoo International Airport.
The Dornier Do 228 is a twin-turboprop STOL utility aircraft, designed and first manufactured by Dornier.
The Do 228 is to be used for safeguard fishing, search & rescue, combat transnational crimes & render critical humanitarian assistance.
The Do228 type aircraft was used as a commercial passenger aircraft for years in the Maldives starting with ‘Air Maldives’ in the late 1980s. National airline ‘Maldivian’ operated the Do228 until later years when they shifted to only the Dash-8 fleet for the operation.
