De Havilland Halts Dash 8 Production affecting 500 employees
De Havilland has announced they would halt the production of the Dash8 due to the circumstances related to the COVID19 pandemic.
This will affect over 500 employees at De Havilland Canada’s facility in Downsview, Toronto. The manufacturer would not take orders beyond the currently confirmed orders.
De Havilland would also be moving out of the Downsview production site as the lease expires this year. De Havilland is yet to announce a new production site.
“We fully expect worldwide demand for the Dash 8 to return once the industry has recovered from the pandemic … ” said David Curtis, executive chairman of De Havilland Canada's parent company Longview Aviation Capital.
Longview Aviation Capital acquired the entire Dash 8 program including the 100, 200, 300 series, and the Q400 program from Bombardier Inc during 2019.
