Faresmathodaa Airport is under development by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), and is expected to be completed by December 2021.
The airport includes a 1,200m runway, passenger terminal, fire station, and other amenities required costing an estimated MVR144.8 million (USD9.4 million).
In May 2021, MTCC announced the completion of subgrade works of the airport runway and turning pad and as of July 2021, construction is underway to build the fire building.
Upon completion, Faresmathodaa Airport will be the fourth airport in Gaafu Atoll region along with Kaadehdhooo Airport, Kooddoo Airport and recently opened Maavarulu Airport.
