Civilian Airplane catches fire after drone attack in Abha Airport

Four bomb-laden drones were used to target Abha airport which caused a civilian plane on the apron to catch fire.

Firefighters soon brought the fire under control and there were no casualties. The Flyadeal Airbus A320, registration HZ-FAB was left with a gaping hole in its side.

The Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack soon after. The Houthis hold the northern area of Yemen. They have often launched missiles and drone attacks towards Saudi cities.

The coalition has responded in the past with airstrikes on Houthi military sites. Abha regional Airport is located around 75 miles from the border with Yemen.

Flyadeal is a low-cost airline based in Jeddah that was launched just 3 years ago. The airline operates with a fleet of 12 Airbus A320’s to 11 destinations.
