Thousands of Afghans and foreigners surged onto the apron at Kabul Airport in an attempt to flee the capital.
The Taliban captured and took control of the main highway into Pakistan from Afghanistan on the eastern city of Jalalabad without any resistance from government forces on Sunday.
They took control of the Torkham border post with Pakistan making the Kabul airport the only way out of Afghanistan.
Soon after, chaos unfolded at the airport as many were trying to get a place on one of the airplanes.
Yesterday, Flights from Emirates, FlyDubai, and other airlines on route to Kabul avoided entering the airspace and diverted instead.
New NOTAMs issued for the airport states that Kabul airspace has been released to the military and all aircraft are advise to reroute as the airspace will be uncontrolled.
British Airways, KLM, Singapore Airlines, and more have rerouted flights to avoid flying over Afghanistan airspace.
The President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani has since left the country and the Taliban fighters have entered the presidential palace and declared the war over.
