Airbus has begun the assembly of the first Airbus A321XLR Airbus’ Hamburg plant in Germany.
The key additional component of the A321XLR is the Rear Center Tank (RCT). The RCT can hold up to 13,100 liters of fuel which allows for the increase in range.
Premium AEROTEC delivered the RCT to the airbus manufacturing plant earlier this month.
“It’s a major milestone for the A321XLR program. The teams can be proud of this achievement and the overall speed of industrialization. We are on track with our planning. The pilot line dedicated to the A321XLR is ready and waiting to operate the assembly phases for the first flight test aircraft, all the way through to the entry into service.” - Martin Schnoor, Head of A321XLR Program Development
Airbus has a dedicated assembly line for the A321XLR so the assembly can begin separate from the A320 assembly line.
Airbus has already received 450 orders for the A321XLR since officially launching the program in 2019.
