First Flight From China Since COVID Lands In Maldives As Beijing Capital Resumes Flights To VIA

As the Chinese government eased travel restrictions imposed on the country the first flight from China arrived in the Maldives.

Chinese low-cost carrier Beijing Capital Airlines operated the first flight to the Maldives from China since the pandemic landing at Velana International Airport (VIA) today afternoon.


The last flight from China has operated 3 years ago and Beijing Capital flight JD455 was given a water salute upon arrival.


The carrier plans to operate 4 weekly flights until 22nd February direct from capital Beijing.


Since 2015 Beijing Capital operated flights to the Maldives halting only during the pandemic.


Additional two Chinese airlines are planning to relaunch flights to the Maldives as well the new upcoming luxury leisure carrier Beond has shown interest to operate flights to China as the carrier plans to commence operations mid-2023.
