Velana International Airport (VIA) which is managed by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been under major development in the last few years
In 2022 VIA began the use of the new VIP building with plans to start the use of the new seaplane terminal and the new runway later this year.
Once the new passenger terminal is completed the VIA will be able to handle 7.8 million passengers annually which is more than double its current capacity.
Such growth results in many employment opportunities with MACL in May alone providing more than 100 job hirings.

Earlier this week MACL also launched a series of career expo sessions for Secondary School students.
The first session of this initiative took place with 38 students from Thaajuddeen School and Billabong High International School participating and MACL intends to expand this expo to additional schools.
Additionally in 2022, MACL carried out Maldives’s first aerodrome control training at VIA’s newly established aerodrome simulator.
