Private carrier Manta Air which began operations recently in 2019 has added a new fleet type to the airlines growing fleet.
The newest addition, a Beechcraft 1900D landed at Velana International Airport yesterday evening after the last leg of the ferry flight.
The Beechcraft 1900 is a 19-seater pressurized twin-engine turboprop designed primarily to be used as a regional carrier.
The aircraft was introduced in 1984 and remained in production until 2002 with a total of 695 built.
The 1900D was designed with a larger stand-up cabin to allow passengers to walk upright as the previous 1900C and 1900’s cabins were fairly small and the aircraft feature more powerful engines with modified propellers.
The introduction of the new fleet will pave way for greater opportunities in the fast-growing aviation sector in the Maldives.
Manta Air currently operates both domestic and seaplane flights with its De Havilland DHC6 Twin Otters and ATR 72-600s.
