Sri Lankan Airlines celebrated 6 years of flying to Gan International Airport in Addu Atoll.
Sri Lankan airlines which began flights to Gan in 2016 is the only carrier which currently operates international flights to the airport.
At peak, Sri Lankan airlines operated up to 4 weekly flights to Gan only halting operations during the pandemic.
The carrier has also just been given approval by the cabinet to lease up to 11 aircraft as lease contract of 4 aircraft is set to expire over the next year.
There was initially a proposal issued in 2022 to lease additional 20 aircraft however it is uncertain whether the carrier will proceed with it. The proposal was issued just as Sri Lanka defaulted on foreign debt.
