China’s Sichuan Airlines Resumes Flights To Maldives After Seven Years


Sichuan Airlines, a leading Chinese airline headquartered in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, has resumed flights to Velana International Airport after seven years.

The airline will operate three direct flights per week between Chengdu Tianfu and Male, utilizing Airbus A320 aircraft.


As the largest airline in western China, Sichuan Airlines primarily operates scheduled domestic and international flights from its main hubs at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, and Kunming Changshui International Airport.


The Maldives has seen a surge in tourism following the resumption of flights between China and the Maldives. To date, over 80,000 Chinese tourists have visited the Maldives in 2023, representing a market share of 7.9%. This new service from Sichuan Airlines is expected to further boost tourism in the region.
