Kulhudhuffushi Airport is gearing up to be fully operational both day and night time.
Night flights to Kulhudhuffushi Airport are to begin as Hanimaadhoo International Airport will soon be closed for development.
At present Hanimaadhoo Airport is closed daily from 14:00 to 02:00 due to construction ongoing at the airport. Since March nternational flights to Trivandrum, India from Hanimaadhoo also have been suspended due to these reasons.
Runway lights have been now installed in Kulhudhuffushi Airport and National carrier Maldivian has successfully operated a test flight at night to the airport.
The Hanimaadhoo International Airport’s development project will see the construction of a passenger terminal, cargo terminal, fuel farm, and fire fighting facility costing USD 136 million. Furthermore, the airport's existing runway will be extended to 2,400m to allow for larger aircraft operations.
Upon completion, the Airport can handle 1.3 million passengers annually and will be able to cater narrow-body jets like the Airbus 320 and the Boeing 737.
