In a sudden turn of events, Mohamed Mihad has been dismissed from his position as Chairman of Island Aviation Services (IAS). The announcement was made by the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) today, marking a shift again in the leadership of the national airline of the Maldives.
Mihad, who was appointed as Managing Director of Island Aviation in 2021, had a notable career with the company. His tenure saw various developments and initiatives aimed at enhancing the airline’s operations and services.
Notably, one of the major steps taken was the replacement of the aging Dash 8 fleet with brand new ATR aircraft, which marked a substantial upgrade in the airline’s regional capabilities. Additionally, the airline initiated comprehensive plans to launch wide-body operations, aiming to expand its long-haul service offerings and enhance its competitive edge in the global market.
However, his role as Chairman was relatively short-lived, having been appointed to the position in January 2024. The reasons behind Mihad’s dismissal have not been publicly disclosed, but the decision comes amidst broader changes within the company’s management structure.
