Maldivian decided to lease an additional ATR as three brand new ATRs ordered by Maldives faced manufacturing delays.

The three new ATRs were originally to be delivered in October 2022 however ATR delivered two aircraft in January 2023 and the third ATR is expected to be delivered in February 2023.

The wet-leased ATR from Swift Air has now departed after three months in operation following the end of the lease agreement.

The carrier plans to replace the entire fleet of Dash8s to ATR due to difficulty in maintaining Dash8s as the aircraft is out of production and the carrier faces difficulties in acquiring spare parts for operation.
