The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has issued a stern warning that strict action will be taken against employees who misuse airport security passes issued for work at Velana International Airport (VIA).

The warning was communicated through a circular sent to all MACL staff and relevant authorities. According to the circular, airport security passes are issued strictly for official duty purposes and for accessing designated restricted or controlled areas at the airport.

However, MACL stated that some employees have been observed entering areas such as the Arrival Baggage Belt area without any operational requirement and engaging with passengers. The company noted that such actions could compromise aviation security and disrupt both airport and Customs operations.

Under the regulations reiterated in the circular, security passes must be used strictly for official duties, and personal or non-operational use is prohibited. Employees are not permitted to enter areas without specific authorization, nor to interact with passengers unless required for official work.

MACL warned that employees who breach these regulations will face administrative action, which may include confiscation, suspension, or cancellation of the security pass. The company urged all employees to fully comply with airport security rules, procedures, and instructions to maintain the safety and security of airport operations.’
