Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has formalised partnership agreements with three national agencies to enhance emergency preparedness and response coordination at Velana International Airport.

The Memoranda of Understanding were signed with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS), and Maldives Red Crescent (MRC) at a ceremony held at Hulhule Island Hotel.

MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed said the agreements establish a formal framework for cooperation between the airport operator and key response agencies. He noted that Velana International Airport, as the country's primary aviation gateway, requires effective multi-agency coordination to maintain operational continuity during emergencies.

Under the MoUs, MACL and its partner agencies will conduct joint training exercises, simulation programmes, and capacity-building initiatives. The agreements also provide for structured communication protocols to enable real-time information sharing during incidents.

The signing ceremony was attended by State Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Energy Ibrahim Mimrah, along with senior representatives from the signatory agencies and MACL executives.
