Maldivian Denies Social Media Rumours Claiming Start of Alcohol Sales on Flights

Maldivian has issued a statement denying widespread social media rumours claiming the national carrier is preparing to introduce alcohol sales on board its flights. The airline described the posts as “entirely false” and urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information that could mislead passengers and damage the reputation of the national airline.

Alcohol service on board is common across most international airlines, particularly full‑service carriers. Many airlines generate significant ancillary revenue from onboard sales, while others include alcoholic beverages as part of their standard inflight service.

However, alcohol policies vary widely depending on national regulations, cultural norms, and airline identity. Some carriers specially those representing Muslim majority nations choose not to serve alcohol at all, while others provide it selectively on international routes.
