A first-ever direct long-haul flight from Addu City (GAN) to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is set to operate, following a request from travel agency The Traveller. The service has been confirmed by Maldivian, the national airline, with bookings expected to open soon.

The flight will be operating on Maldivian's Airbus A330 widebody aircraft, capable of carrying 264 passengers. This marks the first time a non-stop connection has been established between Addu City and Jeddah, allowing travellers from the southern Maldives to bypass the need to route through Male’ or other connecting airports.

The new direct routing will significantly reduce travel time for passengers, offering a far more convenient option for those traveling to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage, business, or other purposes.

The inaugural flight is scheduled for 30 April 2026, representing a major milestone in Addu City's international connectivity.
