Private jet arrivals to the Maldives saw a sharp rise this March, with movements increasing from the usual monthly average of around 80 to nearly 190, according to Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen.

The surge comes amid continued instability and airspace disruptions in the Middle East, a region that serves as a major transit hub for long‑haul travellers heading to the Maldives. Industry observers say the conflict‑related closures and commercial flight cancellations have prompted some high‑spending visitors to opt for private jet travel instead.

Minister Ameen said the government is actively working to attract high‑spending travellers and that the rise in private jet movements reflects coordinated efforts across multiple ministries.

Travel industry groups, including the Maldives Association for Travel Agencies and Tour Operators (MATATO), have linked the increase to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. With many commercial routes disrupted, some travellers have shifted to private aviation to maintain their travel plans.

The rise in private jet arrivals underscores the Maldives’ continued appeal among luxury travellers and highlights the country’s resilience in navigating global aviation disruptions.
