The Maldives National Defence Force has expanded its aerial search to 2,544 square nautical miles as efforts continue to locate two Indian nationals missing after a launch belonging to Indian billionaire Gautam Hari Singhania capsized near Vaavu Atoll earlier this month.

MNDF has deployed its Bayraktar TB2 drone operating from Maafaru and, enabling simultaneous coverage of distant sectors and repeated passes over priority areas. The TB2’s long‑endurance capability and high‑resolution imaging have been central to the operation, allowing crews to scan wide stretches of ocean and coordinate with surface units.

The search follows the overturning of a Cigarette high‑speed launch from Singhania’s yacht TT Ashena about two nautical miles southwest of Keyodhoo. Seven people were onboard: five Indian men, including Singhania, and two women from the United Kingdom and Russia.

Five individuals were swept into the sea. Three were recovered, while two Indian nationals remain missing, prompting the expanded aerial and maritime search.

Singhania, 60, sustained minor injuries and was treated before returning to Mumbai, where his spokesperson confirmed he is recovering.

MNDF has not released further details regarding the cause of the capsizing. The search operation remains active, with Coast Guard vessels, surface teams, and the TB2 drone continuing coordinated efforts across Vaavu Atoll and surrounding waters.
