MACL Signs Agreement with Police and MNATS to Enhance Crisis Management at VIA

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has signed a tripartite agreement with the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Maldives National Air Traffic Service (MNATS) to enhance cooperation and support during emergencies at Velana International Airport (VIA).

The signing ceremony was held today at Hulhulé Island Hotel and attended by senior officials from all three institutions. The agreement was signed by Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen and MPS Managing Director Hassan Shah on behalf of the Maldives Police Service. MNATS Managing Director Ibrahim Thoha signed on behalf of MNATS, while MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed signed representing MACL.


The agreement outlines the roles, responsibilities, and operational policies of the Maldives Police Service and MNATS in an emergency at VIA. It aims to strengthen disaster‑response capabilities, improve communication and coordination, and ensure a unified framework for managing incidents affecting airport operations.


Speaking at the ceremony, MACL CEO and MD Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed emphasized that VIA is one of the most critical facilities supporting the Maldivian economy. He noted that effective emergency preparedness requires strong collaboration between MACL, the police, MNATS, health authorities, and other key institutions.

Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen highlighted the police service’s close cooperation with MACL in managing airport emergencies and said the agreement will further enhance joint efforts to ensure the safety and security of all airport users.


MNATS Managing Director Ibrahim Thoha expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in establishing the agreement, especially acknowledging the contributions of the Airport Emergency Services team.


MACL stated that the agreement marks an important step in strengthening VIA’s emergency‑response framework and ensuring the airport remains fully prepared to handle any crisis effectively.
