The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has officially commenced aviation meteorological operations at the Maafaru Meteorological Office, marking a significant enhancement to weather support services for one of the country’s key northern airports.

According to MMS, the establishment of the Maafaru office strengthens the delivery of accurate, timely, and reliable meteorological information for both domestic and international flight operations. The new facility will support pilots and airport operators with specialised aviation forecasts, observations, and continuous weather monitoring essential for safe and efficient operations.
As part of the expanded capability, METAR services are now available at Maafaru, providing real‑time weather observations to further enhance situational awareness for flight crews and air traffic services.
MMS stated that the launch reflects its ongoing commitment to improving aviation safety and operational readiness across the Maldives, particularly as air traffic through Maafaru continues to grow. The agency reaffirmed its dedication to delivering high‑quality aviation weather services nationwide.
