The Maldives has officially welcomed its two millionth tourist of the year, Ms. Bethany Sarah Kerswell from England, who arrived at Velana International Airport on 27th November 2025. This marks the earliest point in the nation’s history that the milestone has been reached, underscoring the continued strength of the country’s aviation and tourism sectors.

China, Russia, the United Kingdom, and Germany remain among the leading source markets, supported by direct services and seasonal charter flights. The Maldives’ diversified inbound traffic highlights the importance of sustained partnerships with airlines and tour operators, as well as the critical role of aviation infrastructure in supporting the nation’s tourism economy.

The achievement reflects the resilience of international air connectivity to the Maldives; Velana International Airport’s expanded facilities have played a central role in accommodating rising passenger volumes, ensuring smooth arrivals and onward transfers across the archipelago.

With arrivals surpassing two million before December, the Maldives targets to exceed its 2025 target of 2.3 million visitors. For aviation stakeholders, this milestone signals both the opportunities and challenges of managing growth, from expanding route networks to ensuring service quality across airports and domestic transfer systems.
