September Offers No Relief to Passenger Downturn according to IATA reports

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that passenger demand in September fails to show improvement compared to the months before.

International passenger demand was down 88.8% compared to September 2019, which was the same drop in percentage as it was recorded in August.

However domestic passenger demand showed improvement as passenger demand was down 43.3% this September compared to September 2019 while passenger demand was down 50.7% in August compared to August 2019.

Asia Pacific airlines suffered the steepest drop in demand as passenger demand dropped 95.8% in September compared to the year before.


Passenger movement is slowly improving in the Maldives each month since border reopening on July 15th. Numbers are expected to improve in the following months however the demand is significantly low compared to the year before.
