Light aircraft Pilot fined after unauthorized landing at a military airport on a sightseeing flight

A light aircraft pilot, Richard Charles Priestley Wood aged 60 made an unauthorized landing at Royal Airforce Valley on the island of Anglesey, Wales.

Wood landed at the airport during a bank holiday while there was no air traffic controller on duty, and Wales was in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fire crews were deployed to the airport after the aircraft was spotted approaching the airport due to concerns that the aircraft may have been in trouble.

Civil Aviation Authority later fined Wood £3,400 after he pleaded guilty to flying without obtaining permission for the flight.
