Embraer Targeting To Launch Turboprop Aircraft by 2022

Embraer’s Chief Executive for Commercial, Mr. Meijer has said the manufacturer is targeting to launch its turboprop aircraft by 2022.

Embraer last produced a turboprop aircraft over 20 years ago. The Brazilian manufacturer ceased production of the EMB 120 turboprop in 2001.

The new turboprop aircraft is to be designed based on the E-jet family series over the traditional turboprop design.

“Embraer is still very much focused on the segment. We are still working on a turboprop and hope to launch the program in 2022,” Mr. Meijer

The airplane is designed to seat 70-100 passengers targeting is for less passenger short-haul operations.

The airplane will be a direct competitor to the ATR 72 series and the Dash8 Q400.

Seven ATR are in operation with Manta Air and Villa Air Flyme whereas national airline Maldivian operates with 10 Dash8s.
