A SpiceJet Boeing 737-800 windshield cracks at 39,000ft
A Spicejet Boeing 737-800 on flight SG-9749 from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Lucknow, India was diverted to Zahedan, Iran due to a cracked windshield.
The Boeing 737-800 registration VT-SZN was cruising at FL390, 160nm south-southwest of Zahedan Iran when the right-hand windshield cracked.
The flight crew initiated a rapid descent to FL130 with an average descent rate of 3,125fpm leveling off after 8 minutes.
SpiceJet reported that the outer pane of the first officer's windshield cracked while the inner pane remained intact and the cabin pressurization remained normal.
The crew diverted to Zahedan, Iran, landing one hour following the windshield crack. The occurrence aircraft departed 5 hours later to Lucknow, India.
