The President of the Maldives Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has officially inaugurated Lhaviyani Atoll Madivaru airport.
The contract for the construction of the airport was awarded to Kuredu holdings in 2018 which included land reclamation from Madivaru’s lagoon, building a 1200m runway, a passenger terminal, etc.
The project was completed and the first test flight was carried out on 25th December 2021 by Maldivian.
Kuredu Holdings and Maldivian reached an agreement early in January 2022 to begin commercial scheduled flights to and from Madivaru airport.
The airport is likely to be very busy as currently, many tourists arrive to resorts in Lhaviyani Atoll such as Atmosphere Kanifushi, Kommando, Hurawalhi, Kuredu, etc.
Till now tourists have primarily flown onboard Trans Maldivian Airways seaplane to these resorts.
Maldivian will begin commercial flight to Madivaru Airport this Sunday, 20th February and one-way ticket from Male’ to Madivaru
would cost MVR 1,029 and the return ticket will cost MVR 2,058.
