The school holidays in the Maldives are always a busy time for travel for locals with many taking advantage of the break to explore different islands or travel abroad.
During the Holiday period since June national airline Maldivian has operated over 3,600 flight movements carrying more than 132,000 passengers. On the busiest day alone over 3,600 passengers were carried.
To accommodate this increased demand, Maldivian added several additional flights to its daily schedule. The most additional flights were operated to Fuvamulah Airport, followed by Gan International Airport and Hoarafushi Airport. Gan International Airport saw the highest number of passengers.
Maldivian has also operated 100+ flights to Dharavandhoo Airport where the carrier just recently resumed operations to. These efforts demonstrate the carrier’s commitment to meeting the travel needs of locals during peak periods.
Next peak in passenger demand is expected towards the end of the year during new year holidays.
