National Airline Maldivian commenced scheduled flight to Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana (CIAR) this morning.
It also marks the reopening of scheduled international regional flight operations from CAR after five decades.
The flight was operated on the airline 50 seater De Havilland Dash-8 which was received by a celebratory water cannon salute upon arrival.
The passengers were welcomed with gift packs from the Sri Lanka Tea Board followed by a traditional Kandyan dance performance.
Ambassador to the Republic of Maldives, Mr Omar Abdul Razzak, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Maldives, Mr A.M.J Sadig, Minister of Youth & Sports Mr Namal Rajapaksa, State Minister of Aviation and Development of Export Zones Mr D. V. Chanaka and other state ministers and officials attended the event celebrating the reopening of international flights.
Maldivian plans to operate three weekly flights between the two countries with frequency to be added depending on passenger demand.
