Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, and SriLankan Airlines, the flag carrier of Sri Lanka and a member of the oneworld alliance, have entered into a strategic interline partnership designed to enhance travel links across the Indian Ocean region and beyond. The agreement enables passengers to travel on a single electronic ticket across both carriers’ networks, improving convenience, baggage handling, and transfer efficiency.

Under the partnership, SriLankan Airlines will feed passengers from its extensive international network into Malé and Gan, providing seamless onward connections to 17 domestic destinations served by Maldivian. This significantly improves access to the atolls for travellers arriving from Europe, the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and other key markets served by SriLankan Airlines.

For Maldivian passengers, the agreement opens up greater outbound connectivity, offering smoother transfers via Colombo to a wide range of international destinations across SriLankan Airlines’ network, including long‑haul markets such as London, Melbourne, and Tokyo. The arrangement reduces travel friction and expands route options for Maldivians travelling abroad.

“This partnership marks another important step in our efforts to enhance accessibility to the Maldives and strengthen connectivity beyond Malé to the atolls,” said Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian. “With SriLankan Airlines’ extensive global reach and our domestic network, this collaboration will support tourism growth while also making international travel more convenient for Maldivians.”

SriLankan Airlines described the partnership as “connecting one paradise to another,” highlighting the strengthened links between two of the Indian Ocean’s most sought‑after island destinations.

The interline agreement supports the Maldives’ tourism sector by making it easier for international visitors to reach not only Malé but also the country’s dispersed island destinations. It also aligns with both airlines’ commitment to regional cooperation, network integration, and seamless travel experiences.

By leveraging Colombo’s position as a major South Asian transit hub, the partnership enhances the Maldives’ global accessibility while offering Maldivians more convenient outbound travel options bringing the two island nations’ aviation networks closer than ever.
