KLM will cancel 160 European flights over the coming month as the airline responds to sharply rising jet fuel costs, becoming the latest European carrier to adjust its schedule amid ongoing fuel price volatility.

The cancellations represent less than 1% of KLM’s total European operations, and the airline emphasised that it is not facing any jet fuel shortages. Instead, the decision is a cost‑containment measure as fuel prices continue to climb, driven in part by geopolitical instability affecting global energy markets.
KLM said the adjustments are designed to minimise disruption across its network, with most cancellations spread across short‑haul routes where alternative options are available. Passengers affected by the schedule changes will be rebooked on other flights.
Airlines across Europe have been introducing fuel surcharges, adjusting schedules, or reducing capacity as jet fuel prices remain elevated. KLM’s move aligns with a broader trend of carriers recalibrating operations to manage higher operating costs.
