Emirates Boeing 777 Briefly Denied Entry Into Indian Airspace After Flight Plan Mix‑Up

An Emirates Boeing 777 operating flight EK 9314 from Ras Al Khaimah (RKT) to Singapore (SIN) was briefly denied entry into Indian airspace on April 5, 2025, after its flight plan was incorrectly filed as a non‑scheduled service, triggering regulatory concerns with Indian authorities.

The aircraft departed Ras Al Khaimah early that morning and approached Indian airspace at approximately 6:25 a.m. IST, where Mumbai Air Traffic Control flagged a discrepancy in the flight’s operational classification. The flight plan had been submitted as a non‑scheduled operation, which under India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) rules requires prior approval and a valid YA number, neither of which existed for EK 9314.

Because the required authorization could not be located in DGCA records, controllers denied immediate entry and instructed the aircraft to hold over the Arabian Sea while the issue was investigated. The Boeing 777 briefly turned away from the boundary and maintained a holding pattern as Emirates and the flight crew worked to clarify the situation.

The matter was resolved once Emirates confirmed that EK 9314 was a scheduled service, not a charter or non‑scheduled flight. The misclassification was attributed to a flight plan filing error. After verification, Indian authorities granted overflight clearance, allowing the aircraft to continue toward Singapore without further disruption.

India enforces stringent distinctions between scheduled and non‑scheduled operations. Any non‑scheduled flight charter, ferry, or special mission must obtain DGCA approval and carry a YA number before entering Indian airspace. Scheduled commercial flights, however, operate under standing bilateral and regulatory permissions.
