Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has resigned from his position and will continue in the role until a successor is appointed, marking a significant leadership transition at the Tata‑owned carrier.

Wilson’s resignation was accepted at a board meeting last week, and he is expected to remain with the airline through the transition period potentially until September to ensure continuity. He had joined Air India in 2022 on a five‑year contract following the airline’s privatisation earlier that year, and was originally scheduled to serve until 2027.

During his tenure, Wilson oversaw major restructuring efforts, including the merger of multiple Tata aviation entities, large‑scale fleet expansion plans, and the rollout of new service standards. He also navigated the airline through supply‑chain delays, regulatory scrutiny, and operational challenges.

Air India is not the only major Indian carrier undergoing a leadership change. IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, announced the exit of its CEO Pieter Elbers on March 10 and appointed William Walsh as its new chief on March 30, adding to a period of high‑level churn across the sector.
