The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS), in collaboration with the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, hosted a High-Level Dialogue and Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on 30th March 2026 at Meerumaa Events Hall in Male’.

The event addressed two initiatives: the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF)-funded UNEP Investment Phase in the Republic of Maldives, and the inception phase of the Green Climate Fund (GCF)-funded TRACT Project.
The workshop brought together representatives from government institutions, development partners, technical agencies, civil society, academia, and the private sector. Discussions focused on strategic priorities for strengthening meteorological observations, climate services, and multi-hazard early warning systems in the Maldives.
The SOFF-financed UNEP Investment Phase supports countries in closing gaps in weather and climate observation networks. The initiative focuses on ensuring compliance with international basic observation network standards, enabling the collection and international exchange of essential climate data.
For the Maldives, this phase aims to address existing deficiencies in observational infrastructure, which is a prerequisite for accessing broader climate finance and improving the accuracy of weather forecasting and climate monitoring.
The TRACT Project, funded by the Green Climate Fund and implemented through the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, focuses on enhancing climate resilience through targeted adaptation measures.
The project’s scope includes strengthening multi-hazard early warning systems, improving the dissemination of warnings to vulnerable communities, and building institutional capacity to respond to climate-related hazards. The inception workshop marks the formal start of project implementation activities.
The High-Level Dialogue and Stakeholder Engagement Workshop covered cross-sector collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and the role of observation networks and early warning systems in supporting national resilience, disaster preparedness, and climate adaptation.
