Florida lawmakers are advancing a proposal that would rename Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) as “Donald J. Trump International Airport,” a move that has sparked political debate across the state.

The bill, passed by Republican majorities in both chambers of the Florida Legislature, grants the state authority to rename major commercial airports and designates PBI, located a few miles from Trump’s Mar‑a‑Lago residence for the change. The renaming would take effect July 1, pending required administrative steps by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), including updates to navigational charts and databases.

Supporters of the bill describe the move as a tribute to Trump’s political legacy and his long‑standing ties to Palm Beach County. The Republican Party of Florida publicly celebrated the proposal, sharing mock‑ups of signage welcoming travelers to the new airport name.

Democratic lawmakers, however, have opposed the measure, citing concerns over cost. Local reporting estimates the renaming could require up to $5.5 million in updates to signage, branding, and official materials.

The Trump Organization has filed trademark applications related to the proposed airport name but stated that neither Trump nor his family would receive royalties or licensing fees from the change.

If approved, the airport would also adopt a new identifier code, “DJT,” replacing the long‑used PBI designation.
